Why do I need to pay from the tenancy start date if this isn’t the date I will move in?

Your tenancy start date is the date you and other housemates become legally responsible for the property and the utilities at the address.

You should be able to gain opening meter readings from your landlord or letting agency if you do not move in straight away. These, alongside regular meter readings after you move into the property we will be able to gain accurate bills from utility providers reflecting little usage used throughout the period you weren’t living in the property.
