Full Stack Developer
One Utility Bill is a technology service that bundles household bills into one fixed monthly payment, making it ABC-easy for our customers to set up and pay for bills, and saving them tons of time on calls to utilities companies and tedious paperwork. Founded five years ago on the Newcastle Ignite tech accelerator, we’ve grown to over 60 employees, and process over 25,000 bills per month for over 12,000 customers.
We’re an ambitious, hardworking bunch with really clear direction. Having recently received funding to the tune of £1.7m, we’re well placed to achieve some ambitious targets and scale some exciting heights.
It’s an incredibly friendly and warm environment, with bags of communication and no politics. We’ve managed to stay well-connected, fully-supported and have even grown throughout the pandemic.
And we’re always looking to do things better. We innovate on our technology, our processes and our products all the time. And it’s all with two things in mind - what’s best for our customers and what’s best for our team. As a growing business with ambitious targets, we believe we have the perfect environment to start, grow and develop in your career.
The role will cover a range of projects, and will primarily focus on the systems that support our operational function and automation. Projects/features can range from one week to four month builds, often dealing with multiple repositories, large data operations, complex test scenarios, and require a good level of planning. There are two significant greenfield projects starting in the next 4 months, and generally speaking - the company is a growth company and therefore primarily builds new functionality.
All technology is built in house, from marketing websites to complex operational automation. For this reason, all developer roles at One Utility Bill come with an enormous amount of variety, and interesting problems to solve.
The development team adopts cohesive, modern, and secure practices with regards to code quality, testing, technical debt, CI/CD, security, version control, and tooling.
The role is within a small and engaged development team of 8, where all developers have a similar skillset and collaborate regularly. The team consists of 7 full-stack PHP developers, and 1 devops role.
